C.R. (Chilton) Owen, 44, a native of this county died Wednesday night at 9 o'clock at his home in Bronte, Texas, following an illness of several weeks.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Hoyt Kinabrew home here with Rev. R.E. Connell, pastor of the First Methodist Church in charge. Burial services were in charge of the Athens Masonic Lodge and Shriners of Waco. Interment will be at the city cemetery.

The deceased, who was Superintendent of the public schools at Bronte at the time of his death, had been active in educational and legal circles for the past twenty years, being both a licensed attorney and an educator.

Mr. Owen, a son of Dennis Owen, well known early day resident of Henderson county, was reared in the Pine Grove community in this county. He later was graduated from Texas University. He had been active in school work in a number of Texas towns after launching a teaching career at Trinidad in this county nearly a quarter of a century ago. He had held school positions at Alto, Holland, Crosbyton, Henrietta, Burkburnette and South Columbia, Texas. He had been Superintendent of the Bronte schools for the past two years. He was a Mason, a Shriner and had been a member of the Christian church for many years.

The deceased is survived by his wife, the former Miss Hattye Powell of near Athens; one daughter, Miss Celestine Owen, now a student at Texas University, Austin; his mother, Mrs. W.D. Owen, Malakoff; five brothers, Eustace, Sam, Tillman and Bonner Owen of Athens; Dr. D.B. Owen, of Malakoff; four sisters, Mrs. Nettie Boyett and Mrs. Bowen Wilburn of Malakoff; Mrs. Alice Scott of Dallas and Mrs. E.L. Oliver, San Saba, Texas.
