Nora was a Delaware Indian.
Mrs. Nora D. Raybourne, wife of Thomas Raybourne, and a daughter of Charles and Julia Ziegler, was born in Cherokee Nation, now Oklahoma, June 30, 1884, and departed this life, January 3, 1928.
She came with her parents to Lawrence, Kansas, when about 10 years old, and lived here until her death. She was married to Thomas Raybourne, May 19, 1901. To them were born 9 children, 7 of whom are living: Mrs. Nettie Tidd, of Potwin, Kans.; Wilder Raybourne, of Topeka; Mrs. Margaret Burgess of Lone Star; and Joe, Tom, Raymond and Junior, at the home.
Mrs. Raybourne was a good woman, who read her Bible and took it as her council and guide, and followed it closely. She never united with any church, but lived a real Christian life.
She was a loving companion, and a most devoted mother. Indeed, her home was her altar and her throne. No mother could be more devoted to husband and children than she was to hers.
As a friend and neighbor, she was true and good to all. She made no distinction because of race, color, wealth or poverty, but was kind and helpful to all. Her motto was, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." She was respected and loved by all who knew her.
Besides her husband and children she leaves two sisters, Mrs. Nettie Walker, and Mrs. Lula Lewis, both of Brookfield, Mo., and three brothers, Malon Ziegler, of Duluth, Minn., Bert Ziegler and Herbert Mathews, of Bernidge, Minn., and a large circle of friends and neighbors who mourn her passing.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. M. G. McKenzie of Centenary M. E. church. Mr. McKenzie spoke from the 23rd Psalm.
Mrs. H. K. Lury and Mrs. A. Conner, friends of the family, sang "Nearer My God to Thee," "In the Garden," and "Abide With Me." Mrs. Gertrude Fincher was at the piano.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Spanish-American war veterans participated with a very beautiful service.
The pallbearers were Oscar J. Lane, V. M. Smith, Bert Kuhn, H. Bright, Howard Erwin and Grant Glenn.
She was laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery January 6, 1928.
