WASHINGTON, Ill. — Charleen Kay Chapman, 72, of Washington, Ill., formerly of Streator, died at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, at Washington Christian Village in Washington.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington. The Rev. Darrin McKnight will officiate.

Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Born Jan. 16, 1929, in Pinckneyville, she was the daughter of John B. and Melissa (McElroy) Sronce. She married James R. Chapman on July 11, 1947, in Pinckneyville. He survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Lori (Mrs. Roger) Carroll of Chillicothe; sons, Randy (Jean) Chapman of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., Stephen (Kim) Chapman of Washington, Chris (Mary) Chapman of Normal, Kent (Diane) Chapman of Groveland, and Robert (Sue) Chapman of Streator; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Loren (Eileen) Sronce of Normal and Gene (Carol) Sronce of Pinckneyville; and sisters, June (Mrs. Don) Reith of Ft. Meyers, Fla., and Mary (Mrs. John) Brand and Martha (Mrs. Wayne) Loos, both of Rockford.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Bobbie.

She graduated from Midstate College in Peoria.
She worked as a secretary at Caterpillar Tractor Co., and also at Illinois Central College. She and her husband were caretakers for the Streator Baptist Campground for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Washington and Erven Avenue Baptist Church in Streator.
