Judge Alexander Stedman was an architect by profession and and later judge.
He lived at Norwich, CT.
In 1772, he removed to Orford (now South Manchester), CT.
By 1790, he had settled in Tunbridge, Vermont where he was the first Town Clerk.

He married three times:
1st Sarah Cushman - of Mayflower linéage) Nov 10 1768
2nd Comfort Hatch (widow Crippen)
3rd Sarah "Sally" Jones

In 1804, after the death of hist first wife, Sarah Cushman, he settled in Rome Township, Athens County, Ohio.In 1805 he was appointed one of the judges of the court of common pleas for Athens county and held the position for several years. He purchased his land directly from the Ohio Company. Two of his sons, Levi and Eli, are mentioned in the transaction.
