Rufus H. Low, Jr. was the son of R.H. Low, Sr. and Harriet Ione Sylvester. In college, he was a star tackle for the Mississippi State football team. He married Mary Lavinia Crawford in Bristol, VA in 1928. Their honeymoon trip included visiting his Uncle Dave Low and family at the Mont Helena Plantation in Sharkey County, MS. He worked for the telegraph company in Birmingham, AL where he suffered a gall bladder attack and died during the surgery.
