NEPHEW OF SECOND PRESIDENT KILLED
Portland April 24, 1918. Grand Rapids Press.
"In settling the estate of John Adams, a 92 year old pioneer of Portland township, who died here recently, it was made public that the aged man was a grand nephew of John Adams, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and later a President. Few, if any, knew him as a relative of the second president and it is doubtful the modest old gentleman ever mentioned the fact outside of his immediate family. Despite Mr. Adams advanced age he was very active and up until his death conducted his business affairs personally. He was an active farmer and accumulated a snug fortune. When thrown from his wagon a week prior to his death he received injuries but not considered dangerous at the time which caused his death".

John was preceded in death by his wife Julia. Julia was born in November 1827, they married in 1846. Their children were: Bertha (born 1867) and John Freeman Adams (born 1860), Margaret (1847) and Lenna (born 1858).

Source: death cert: Son of Samuel Adams and Elizabeth Freeman.

Note: I have been unable to verify that John was a descendant of President John Adams (JA).
JA only had one brother who produced male heirs, Elihu Adams. Elihu had two sons to carry on the Adams name: John and Elisha. The possible grand-nephews are: John, son of John, grandson of Elihu Adams, b. in East Randolph, MA,
1790, d. 1803; John, Jr., son of John, grandson of Elihu Adams, b. in East Randolph, MA, June 8, 1806, died in Holbrook, Sept. 23, 1890, age 84; John Quincy, son of Elisha, grandson of Elihu Adams, b. in Abington,
1807, died in New Orleans, LA about 1849. None were born in NY in 1826.
Research of Marilynn Johnson.
