Clinton man dies in mobile home fire

Good Morning Tennessee Reporter
CLINTON (WATE) -- A Clinton man died in a mobile home fire early Tuesday morning.
Firefighters say they were unable to rescue Kenneth Kyle Collins, 36, because the trailer at 300 Belmont Lane in the Carroll Hollow Trailer Park was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.
Collins was disabled and wheelchair bound.
A neighbor also tried to reach Collins during the fire but was unsuccessful. That neighbor was treated for smoke inhalation.
The blaze was first reported at 3:30 a.m. to the Medford Volunteer Fire Department. Firefighters from the Marlow and Claxton Volunteer Fire Departments were also called in to help.
Investigators from the state Fire Marshall's Office have been called in to determine the cause of the blaze. They believe it's accidental.
The Anderson County Coroner's Office is working to determine Collins' cause of death.

CLINTON - Frantic efforts by a neighbor, deputies and firefighters to reach a disabled man in a wheelchair who was trapped in a mobile home fire early this morning were unsuccessful, according to an Anderson County Sheriff's Department news release.
Killed in the 3:30 a.m. blaze was Kenneth Kyle Collins, 36, a resident of Carroll Hollow Mobile Home Park on Belmont Lane off Carroll Hollow Road near Clinton.
The unidentified neighbor who first tried to rescue Collins was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, according to Chief Deputy Mark Lucas.
The mobile home was fully engulfed in flames by the time rescue personnel arrived, Lucas said.
The blaze, believed to be accidental, remains under investigation by the state Fire Marshal's Office and the sheriff's criminal investigation unit.
Members of the Medford, Marlow and Claxton Volunteer Fire Departments along with the Anderson County Emergency Medical Services responded to the blaze. The Red Cross also responded to assist other mobile home park residents.

Friends, Family Remember Man Killed In Medford Trailer Fire
Anderson County (WVLT) -- A Clinton man is dead after a fire broke out inside his mobile home early Tuesday morning.
Kenneth Kyle Collins was disabled and unable to escape the flames.
According to family and friends, Kenny wasn't able to get around much anymore.
He was confined to a wheelchair due to a debilitating disease, but even so, he was quick to lend a hand to anyone who needed it.
Kenny had only lived in the mobile home in Medford's Carroll Hollow Trailer Park for the past couple of weeks, but it burned to the ground in a matter of minutes.
Fire crews were on scene quickly, but it was already fully engulfed by flames.
All Kenny's neighbors could do, was watch.
"When that happened early this morning, I tried to get him and I couldn't because I knew he was in there," said Don Golden, who was staying just across the street. "I couldn't get to him, it was just too involved."
Kenny was trapped and couldn't get out.
Hours later, his family visited the trailer he lost his life and you couldn't tell the rain from the tears that were shed.
"Our parents are both gone," said a tearful Kelley Collins, Kenny's younger sister. "I have two children and he is the one that helped me with my kids. It has been just me and him. Now, I'm by myself.
Bubbie, as Kelley called Kenny, suffered from Muscular Dystrophy, and was confined to a wheel chair after breaking his back in April.
Rhonda Jenkins grew up with Kenny and knew him well.
"He had a heart of gold and loved his niece and nephew," she said.
Jenkins and Kelley also recalled his playful side, remembering him as a prankster, trouble-maker and huge NASCAR fan.
"He didn't think there was anybody else other than Tony Stewart," Kelley said. "That was his driver, so my daughter and I, when we'd find Tony Stewart stuff, would buy it."
According to family and friends, the race fan they called Bubbie, Uncle Kenny, trouble-maker and trouble-fixer now has another name.
"You just can't ask for a better person," Jenkins said, "and God has got him a good angel."
Kenny's friend Melody said he had been sick all day yesterday, and around 3:00 AM Tuesday he felt like eating, so she ran out to get something.
When she came back about 20-minutes later, the home was on fire.
Kenny also left behind a nephew and niece.

CLINTON — An investigation into the cause of a mobile home fire that killed a wheelchair using man continued Thursday, but authorities say it appears accidental. Kenneth Collins , 36, who had muscular dystrophy, died in the 3:30 a.m. blaze Tuesday at Carroll Hollow Mobile Home Park on Belmont Lane near Clinton. A woman who lived in the trailer with Collins had left about a halfhour earlier to get some food, authorities said. A neighbor who tried to rescue Collins from the trailer was treated for smoke inhalation. Funeral services for Collins are at 8 p.m. Monday at the chapel of Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City, with interment at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Oak Grove Cemetery.
