Joseph Clyde Root of Bedford, IN, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at the Westview Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on April 16, 1909, in Lawrence County, IN, he was the son of Thomas V. and Cora (Williams) Root. He married Alice Patton and she died in 1984. He married Hester Baldwin and she survives.

Also surviving are one sister, Anna Claque of Conroe, TX; three step-sons, Edward and James Baldwin, both of Bedford, IN, and Michael Baldwin of Jamestown, ND; caregiver, Vernon Root of Bedford, IN; nine step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer and Melvin Root, and two sisters, Emma Root and Edna Zollman.

He was a World War II Army veteran and a self-employed cabinetmaker and carpenter. He was a member of the New Union Christian Church, where he was an elder, and the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

Services for Joseph Root will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 16th, at the New Union Church. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens with graveside military rites accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.
