Lucetta Jones was born Johnston Co, NC in 1835, the daughter of James Jones Jr. (ca. 1801) and Ulrica Bryant/Bryan (1801) of Clayton.

Around 1853, the 18-year old married (1st) to 25-year old farmer, Richard Avera/Avery, of Clayton, Johnston County. This marriage resulted in 2 known children being born: George W. Avery (1854-1916) and Sarah Avery (c. 1855). It is known her husband died before 1868, and it is believed he died during the Civil War where he was a member of the NC 27th, Co. E.

In 1868, the 33-year old widow married (2nd) to 32-year old farmer, George Wilder, of Clayton. George became stepfather to her two Avery children, now aged about 14 and 13, and they "adopted" his surname; however, George later used the Avery surname. This marriage resulted in one more child being born: Annie L. Wilder (c. 1869).

Lucetta was widowed for the second time when George died sometime between 1880-1900. She continued to hold her husband's farm in Clayton until 1910, when she moved in with her son and daughter-in-law in St. Mary's.
