ASKEW - Scott R., retired Tulsa Fire Fighter, joined his beloved wife Thelma on March 31, 2009. Scott was born February 18, 1921, in Hunter, AR to Luther and Mary (Cherry) Askew. He graduated from Webster High School in 1940 and moved to Los Angeles to work for Lockheed Aircraft. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Scott joined the United States Marine Corps and served with Marine Fighter Squadron VMF-223 on Guadalcanal and other islands in the Pacific. While in Los Angeles, Scott discovered and wed the love of his life, Thelma Hansen. They married in 1943 and returned to Tulsa after the war. In 1945, Scott joined his father on the Tulsa Fire Department and retired in 1976 to farm and raise livestock. Scott was preceded by Thelma in 2005 and is survived by: his children, Scott Michael of Walters, OK, Daniel and his wife Suzanne of Tulsa, Mary and her husband Wayne Johnson of Cleveland, OK and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 3, at the Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel. The family requests that in lieu of flower, contributions be made to Alzheimer's research.
