One of the oldest and most highly respected citizens of Haywood County passed away last Thursday afternoon when Milas Alexander Kirkpatrick died at the Kenmore Hotel which is operated by his youngest son, Cleveland F. Kirkpatrick. Mr. Kirkpatrick was born in Fines Creek Township on May 11, 1841, and lived most of his life in Crabtree Township where nine children were born, all now living. He was married to Miss Annie Byers in 1868 and celebrated his golden wedding in 1918.

He was a Confederate soldier and was wounded at the battle of Seven Pines and has limped since then with a badly shattered leg.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. D. Arnold, assisted by Revs. J. H. W., R. A. Sentelle, George D. Herman and A. V. Joyner Friday morning and was largely attended by friends and relatives. The widow and all the children were there.

The following children survive: Dr. W. L. Kirkpatrick, Pacelot, SC; Mrs. R. I. Hoke, Pinehurst; Mrs. R. P. McCracken, Kent's Store, VA; Rev. Charles C. Kirkpatrick, Greensboro; Mrs. Dr. R. C. Kirkpatrick of Crabtree also survive.

A loyal Methodist, a staunch Democrat and a good citizen and friend has gone, but his memory will long remain with many friends who knew him best.

The obituary omitted that Milas was also survived by his son John Robeson Kirkpatrick of Kent's Store, VA. Milas served in CSA's Thomas Legion. Co F and Co. L, 16th NC Infantry .
