(Statement from newspaper) William was hit and killed when he ran between two parked cars into the side of a police cruiser near his home at 2634 North Twenty -first St. t 4:35 pm Monday. He was pronounced dead at City Hopital. Patrolman Wilbert Mosby 30 said he was driving North on Twenty-first about 15 miles an hour when the child ran into the cruiser. The officer said he didn't see the boy and stopped when he heard a thump against the side of the cruiser.
Update: A family source places Billy on a street corner at the time of his death. He was struck and pinned by the car the officer was driving, when the officer missed the corner while making a turn. The child hadn't been at fault, the rear of the car struck the child and was involve in the child's death. The Police Department covered the cost of his funeral, due to the officer's mistake.
