Alfred C. Carney Jr., 80, of Natrona Heights, died Monday, March 9, 2009, in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Sept. 18, 1928, in Tarentum, a son of the late Alfred C. Carney Sr. and Pauline (Gamble) Carney.

He lived in Natrona Heights since 1984, and previously resided in Lower Burrell.

He was employed by PPG Industries, Creighton, for 21 years, and was the owner of AC Carney Trucking in Natrona Heights for 35 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Navy. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Brackenridge. He was also a member of Masonic Blue Lodges 577 of Leechburg and 239 of Freeport, Scottish Rite and Consistory, 32nd Degree Mason, Shrine Motor Corps, Tall Cedars and Hillbillies of the Shrine, and was appointed 2009 Aide of the Potentate of the Syria Shrine. He graduated from the former Tarentum High School in 1947. He was a life member of the Brackenridge American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, and was an avid Steelers fan.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Jean (Livermore) Carney; son, Alfred C. Carney III, of Allegheny Township; two grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; stepsons, Jeffrey (Alyce) Collins and Timothy (Jane) Collins, both of Buffalo Township, Kenneth (Lisa) Collins, of Natrona Heights, and Jim (Marcy) Collins, of Allegheny Township; stepdaughters, Julie (Patrick) Sheaffer, of Kiski Township, and Jennifer (Michael) Rametta, of Allegheny Township; nine stepgrandchildren; a stepgreat-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Carney.

Relatives and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the DUSTER FUNERAL HOME, Tarentum,.

Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home by his pastor, the Rev. Alyce Weaver Dunn.

Private burial will be in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
