Dr. William J. Burling passed away March 7, 2009, in Springfield, Mo., of melanoma cancer. He was born Jan. 27, 1949, in Ladysmith to Wesley and Patricia Burling. Dr. Burling taught English at Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo., from 1989 until he went on medical leave in February 2009. He is survived by his parents, Wes and Pat of Cumberland; his wife, Debby of Springfield; daughter, Dr. Amanda Burling of Chicago, Ill.; son, Andrew of Minnesota; brothers, Robert (Teri) of Gardner, Kan., and Bradley (Kristen) of Cumberland.
