Jennie lived at 2807 Rio Grande in Austin with her sister, Mary Burleson, beginning in 1916. Jennie and her sister never married.
Jennie was well known for the house she built in Buda, Texas. The house is known today as the Chambers house. In 1899 Miss Burleson paid her Uncle Peter Weir $1 for two and a half acres on the northwest side of Buda. Jennie, with help from her sister, Mary built the house herself.
In 1919 Jennie became the second Superintendent of the Waco State Home for Dependent and Neglected Children. The home is now known as the Waco Center for Youth.
