Mrs. Mary Ellen Slater, wife of Christian A. Slater, died at her residence in Callensburg, Pa., on Monday June 21, 1909 at the age of 42 years, 10 months, and 6 days. Death was caused by locomotor ataxia or creeping paralysis.
Deceased was the mother of nine children, namely: Warren, an officer in the U.S. navy at Newport, R.I., Homer, Myrtle, Emery, Charles, Dorothy, Berton and Roy.
She is also survived by her father, Samuel S. Fisher, three brothers and two sisters, namely: Mrs. Lucetta Dunkle, Bests Corners; Lara Fisher, Barnes, Pa.; Henry Fisher, Evans City; Chas. E. Fisher, Blairs Corners; and S.S. Fisher, Rimersburg.
She was a faithful and sincere member of the Reformed church at Mt. Zion. For more than 10 years she had been a sufferer from creeping paralysis, bearing this with the most sublime, uncomplaining patience. She was a woman who endeared herself to all with whom she came in contact through her faithfulness for her family and interest in and sympathy with everyone. She will be greatly missed from her family, church and the community in which she lived.
Funeral services were conducted at the home Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, June 23rd by Rev. H. Smallenberger of the M.E. church of Callensburg and the remains were laid to rest in the Mt. Zion cemetery. The sympathy of the community is extended to the family and immediate friends in this their sad bereavement.
