Lucinda was born in Supply, Randolph County, Arkansas. By the time she was 9, her family was living in Little Black, which was also in Randolph County. Her mom died during childbirth, and since she was the oldest living child, she was the one who cared for her baby sister. Lucinda said her sister was very tiny because she was premature and she had to try to keep her warm, near the wood stove. They had a cow that they milked to feed the baby, who needed fed frequently because she was so tiny. Her next oldest sibling was a sister who was 8 years old. Her father remarried one month later, and I'm sure all of the children were very thankful to have a new mother (there were 6 living children).

She married D. Haywood Hawkins, Jr on 4 Jan 1879, in Ripley County, Missouri . They made their home in Maynard, Randolph County, where their first child was born in November of 1879. They remained in Maynard until around 1894 and then moved back to Supply. Their 9th child was born in 1898 in Maynard.

By 1910, they were living in Gallegos, Union County, New Mexico, but by 1920 they were living in Hudson, Quay County, New Mexico. By 1930, they had moved to Tucumcari, which is also in Quay County, and remained there until her death in 1949 at the age of 87.

She and Haywood had nine children:
1) John Henry (1879-1922)
2) Jesse Lovelace (1881-1920)
3) Travis Leonidos (1883-1970)
4) Drury Haywood, Jr (1885-1886)
5) Isaac Horace (1888-1975)
6) Anna Bell (1890-1890)
7) Mary Elizabeth "Molly" (1891-1932)
8) Lou Emma (1894-1992)
9) Roy Hawkins (1898-1916)
