John died suddenly of heart trouble. He had spent many years working as a merchant and general dealer in horses and stock.
Besides his widow, he left to mourn him his three living daughters: Miss Gertrude Moon of Stratford, NY; Mrs Lillian Dunn of Alder Creek; and Mrs. Maynetta aka Nettie Hayes(#1 marriage name- Boyer)(#2 marriage name- Hayes)of Oriskany Falls and one son, Arthur B. of Herkimer. Also, one sister, Sarah (Moon) Nellis of Dolgeville. Funeral was largely attended from his late home by Rev. C. A. Moulton officiating, with burial to be in the Stratford Cemetery, Herkimer County, NY.
