WILLIAM DEMPSEY HILL, affectionately known as "Billy", born July 24, 1923 in Paris, TN, the son of Lorene Holmes Hill and James McCoy Hill, departed this realm on Friday, March 13, 2009. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Memphis and were residents of the Binghamptom community. He attended Memphis Public Schools and was a graduate of Tech High School in 1941, immediately after which he went to work for Buckeye Cellulose Corporation. From 1943 to 1946, he served in the Army Air Force, attaining the rank of sergeant. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to Buckeye where he worked until his retirement in 1981. "Billy" was a member of Merton Avenue Baptist Church for more than 70 years. In addition to loving his church, he loved children and animals, all which he gave generous support. He leaves past and present members of his Merton Avenue Baptist Church Family. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 17 at Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2-2:30, with graveside services at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery.
