Mrs. Margaret Hammes, 93, Baileyville, KS, died Friday, October 17, 1980, at a Seneca hospital where she had been since September 17.
She was born April 5, 1887, on a farm south of St. Benedict, KS, the daughter of Herman and Anna Schulte Engelken. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School at St. Benedict.
She was married to Aloysius Hammes on April 12, 1910, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Benedict, KS. They farmed north of Baileyville for 10 years, then moved to a farm east of Baileyville, KS. He died December 17, 1951.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. Ann's Altar Society, Baileyville.
Survivors include daughter, Lucille Hammes, of the home; sons, Clarence Hammes, of the home; Leonard Hammes, Seneca, KS; Elmer Hammes, Seneca, KS; brothers, Leo Engelken, Mission, KS; Albert Engelken, Seneca, KS; 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Mrs. Kathleen Feldkamp on July 29, 1963; son, Maurice Hammes on November 17, 1974. brothers, Bernard Engelken, John H. Engelken, Joseph A. Engelken; sisters, Elizabeth Stallbaumer, Anna Stallbaumer, Mary Ellen Rettele, and Clara Haug.
Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Church, Baileyville, KS. Burial was in the church cemetery.
