Funeral for Lena Kaufman Robinson will be held on Saturday, Oct 6, 2007, at the Freedom LDS Church. The services will begin at 11 a.m.
A viewing has been scheduled for Saturday from 9-10:45 a.m. prior to funeral services at the church
Lena Kaufman Robinson, 90, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at Star Valley Medical center. Funeral services were held in Freedom on Saturday, October 6, 2007.
Lena was born March 19, 1917 in Alta, Wyoming in the Teton Valley, to Rudolph and Rosina Durtchi Kaufman. The Kaufman's immigrated to the United States from Switzerland in 1906. They settled in Alta in 1909.
The children learned how to make Swiss cheese and the family produced some of the first swiss cheese sold commercially west of the Mississippi. The family went on to establish Swiss cheese factories in Freedom and Thayne was well as in Paris, Salmon and Blackfoot, Idaho.
In her early years in Star Valley, Lena worked in the sales department of the Star Valley Swiss Cheese Factory in Thayne.
As a child, Lena loved horses, working in the fields with her family and milking cows from her father's dairy herd.
She married Russell Stone on March 28, 1934. Two children were born to this union, Byrle and Linda.
In 1950 Lena married Garr L. Robinson and three chidlren were born into their family, Jan Kip and Tim.
Lena was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and Garr were sealed together with her five children on April 2, 1971 in the Logan LDS Temple.
Lena worked with Garr in his grain cleaning and grinding business in Star Valley after he retired from the Forest Service.
Lena made wonderful homemade bread, jellies, jams and bottle peaches. She could also darn socks, patch pants and stretch a small household budget. She loved homemaking and dedicated a great part of her life to serving others.
In 1979, Lena and Garr bought a motor home and traveled together. They eventually settled in St, George and later moved to Arizona but returned to Freedom to spend the summer.
Lena was preceded in death by her two sons, Byrle and Tim and a granddaughter, Patrice.
She is survived by her husband Garr, daughters, Linda and Jan; son Kip; 16 grandchildren. she is also survived by two sisters, Beth Webb and Ella Beard.
