John Heilman was the son of John Heilman, Sr. and Hannah Rentz. He married twice and had 10 known Heilman children.

He married first to Sarah Ulsh, the daughter of Henry Ulsh, on 23 Aug 1846 in Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania.

On the 1850 Clinton Twp., Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania census, I found farmer JOHN Hilman, 28; other Hilmans: Sarah, 26 and Hannah R, 2, plus Martha Frontz, 12, all Pennsylvania born.

His first wife Sarah died 2 Dec 1858

He married second to Letitia Ramsey Gibson, the daughter of Robert Weir Gibson and Margaret Grier, on 24 May 1860.

On the 1860 Clinton Twp., Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania census, I found farmer JOHN Hileman, 39; Latetia R Hileman, 24; Hannah R Hileman, 12; Russel P Hileman, 10; Mary C Hileman, 7 and Elizabeth Waltman, 22, all Pennsylvania born.

On the 1870 Williamsport Ward 1, Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania census, I found retired manufacturer JOHN Heilman, 48; wife Lettia R, 33; sons or daughters: grocery clerk Russel P, 19; Mary, 17; Annie, 8; Stella E, 6; Oren, 4 and Norman, 2, all Pennsylvania born. Lettia's father was foreign born.

On the 1880 Delaware, Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania census, I found farmer JOHN Heilman, 58; other Heilmans: wife Letitia, 43; daughters or sons: Annie L, 19; Stella E, 16; Oran G, 14; Norman L, 12 and Niggie E, 9, all Pennsylvania born.

His second wife Letitia died 29 Sep 1899.

On the 1900 Williamsport Ward 9, Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania census, I found retired widower JOHN Heilman, 78, born Oct 1821 and single daughter Margaret Heilman, 23, Sep 1876, both Pennsylvania born.

On the 1910 Williamsport Ward 9, Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania census, I found bank teller Charles H Hill, 39; wife of 5 years, Margaret H, 29; son James H Hill, 4; daughter Margaret E Hill, 3; daughter Gertrurde H Hill, 1 2/12 and widowed father in law and retail merchant grocer, John Heilman, 88, all Pennsylvania born.

"John Heilman, retired, was born in Clinton township, Lycoming county, Pennsylvania, October 15, 1821, son of John and Hannah (Rentz) Heilman. He was educated in the schools of his neighborhood, and was brought up on a farm. During the years 1867 and 1868 he was in partnership with the Stadons, in the manufacture of woolen goods in Williamsport. He was married in 1848 to Miss Sarah Ulch, daughter of Henry Ulch, who died September 2, 1858, leaving five children, three of whom are now living: Russell P., who is a physician at Emporium, Pennsylvania; Hannah R. , who married William Dickson, and afterwards, Banister Coffers; and Mary C. , who married John S. Hays. He was again married, in 1860, to Miss Letitia R. Gibson, and to this union have been born five children: Annie L., who married Edward M. Bates: Stella, who married Charles Weidenhamer: Oren G., who is an instructor in Cornell University; Norman L.. and Maggie. After his first marriage Mr. Heilman located on a farm in Clinton township, where he remained until 1866, when he moved to Williamsport and lived a retired life for eleven years; after this he returned again to the farm for five years, and then took up his permanent residence in Williamsport. He is independent in his political proclivities; he was once an overseer of the poor in Clinton township, and was a member of the school board of Williamsport for four years. With his family he adheres to the Presbyterian church. He is one of the well-to-do citizens and large real estate owners of Williamsport and Watsontown, and also owns 640 acres of timber land in Ashland county, Wisconsin." John Hielman (sic) was born 15 Oct 1821 in Clinton Twp, Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania to parents John Hielman (sic), born Lycoming Co., overwritten "Columbia Co.," Pennsylvania and Hannah Rentz Hielman (sic), born Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania. He was widowed and retired. On 27 Feb 1911, he died in Williamsport, Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania from a cerebral hemorrhage and old age. PA CD 1786.
