Son of Hannah and Jacob(6), John(5), Joseph(4), Daniel(3), Daniel(2), Deacon John Doane(1). Born near Cane Creek, Orange Co. (now Chatham Co.), NC in 1794/5. He probably moved to Indiana at the same time as his father, around 1809. He was living in Lawrence Co, IN before the 1820 census and thereafter until his death. In Oct. 1849, he purchased from Henry Chapman, 40 acres, the northeast quarter of the north east quarter section of Twp. 20. This land lies between Huron and Williams, IN. Jehu lived there until his death, May 4, 1875. He married Jane Marley, born 1796 in NC, daughter of Henry Marley. Family tradition says that Jehu and Jane were married and the oldest child born before they came to Lawrence Co. and that they lived first near Salem in Washington Co. Jane died 1876; both are buried on the east side of the Church at Port Williams, IN, ca. two miles south of Williams, IN. Taken from Doane Family Association book.
