Lawson married first to Matilda C. Teague (1844-1899) on 16 Oct 1877 at Abbott's Creek Township, Davidson County, North Carolina. Lawson and Matilda were the parents of four known children, namely:

2. Luther Wingate Beckerdite (1879-1933)
3. Etta Beckerdite Masten (1883-1964)
4. William Hugh Beckerdite (1888-1965)
After Matilda died, Lawson remarried to Claudia Priscilla Fisher (1867-1946) on 28 Oct 1904 at Forsyth County, North Carolina and they had one known child, namely:
5. Ruth Beckerdite Rudacil (1905-2002)
