COUPLE DIES
IN CAR CRASH

Peotone -- Two persons were killed in a three-car collison Saturday at U.S. 45 and Peotone Road two miles west of here. Five persons were injured.
The dead were Fred Clifton, 31, and his wife, Rose Saikley Clifton, 30, of Waukegan, Illinois. Both were former residents of Danville.
State patrolmen reported an automobile driven by another driver, collided with the Clifton car, knocking it into the other lane of traffic where it was struck by another car.
The drive who struck the Clifton car and knocked into the other lane was charged with failing to stop at a stop sign.


FREDERICK CLIFTON

Fred Clifton was the son of Edward Clifton, 716 N. Walnut, and the late Clara Clyde Clifton. He was taking his father to a Waukegan hospital at the time of the accident.
The Cliftons were married in 1944 and moved to Waukegan where they were employed by the Johns-Mansville Company. While in Danville Mr. Clifton was employed at the F. W. Amend Company and his wife by the Robert Pettigrew insurance agency.

ROSE SAIKLEY CLIFTON

Mrs. Rose Clifton is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Faris (Frank) Saikley, 909 Harmon; a sister, Mrs. Amelia Nasser, Terre Haute; and six brothers, Frank Aness, Al and G. Haven, Danville; Mitchell, Indianapolis and Solomon of New Orleans.
The bodies are being returned to the Berhalter Funeral Home in Danville.

FRED AND ROSE CLIFTON

Services for Mr. and Mrs. Fred Clifton, former Danville residents who were killed in an automobile accident near Peotone, Illinois, Saturday evening, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the St. James Methodist Church. The Rev. Arthur P. Jordan will offficiate, with burial in Springhill Cemetery. The Barrick & Sons Funeral Home will be in charge.
The bodies will be taken to the church one hour preceding the services. The Iris Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, of which Mrs. Clifton was a member, and the Anchor Lodge of which Mr. Clifton was a member, will perform their respective rites.
Mr. Clifton's father, Edward, of 716 N. Walnut, a janitor at Danville High School, was not in the Clifton car as was first reported. He was in a Waukegan hospital where he had been since shortly after Labor Day when he became ill during a visit with his son and daughter-in-law.The elder Clifton was returned to Lake View Hospital here in Danville Sunday. his condition was described as "good" Monday.

Mrs. Clifton was born September 11, 1918, in Danville, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Faris Saikley. Mr. Saikley is a retired grocery store owner.
She was a member of the St. James Methodist Church and the OES.

Fred Clifton was born October 19, 1918 in Danville, the son of Edward and the late Clara Clifton.
He was a member of the St. James Church and the Masonic Lodge. Only survivor is the father.
