"Death of a Good Man"
Mr. James W. Jackson, who resided near this place, died Thursday, May 9th 1901, aged seventy-four year. Mr. Jackson was a consistent member of the Mount Airy Baptist Church, the oldest member of Granite Lodge of Masons and a good citizen and kind neighbor. His Character was clean - - without a blemish. A wife and large family are left to mourn the death of a kind husband and indulgent father. Granite Lodge of Masons buried the remains of their deceased brother on Friday afternoon at Oak Grove with Masonic Honors, perhaps five or six hundred persons attending the funeral service. Rev. C. C. Haymore, assisted by Revs. V. M. Marsha and Z. Paris, onducted the religious services. It was indeed a solemn occasion, and, as the rain descended and fell upon the coffin, we were reminded of the passage in Scripture where it says; "Blessed is the corpse that it rains upon." The Wife and children have the sympathy of the entire community in their great sorrow.
