She was born in Bacon County but following her husband Leo's retirement from the military moved to Hoboken in 1968. She also attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the late Oden S. Carter and Susie Morgan Carter. She was married to the late Leo Hartford Johnson and preceded in death by three sisters, Maudene C. Shuman, Vesta C. Rainwater, and Gwendolyn C. McQuaig.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Gunter (Donnie) of Hoboken; four sons, Larry Leo Johnson of Fairbanks, AK, Kenneth Allen Johnson (Julie) of Blackshear, Craig Wesley Johnson (Barbara) of Blackshear, and Christopher Robin Johnson (Lynn) of Hoboken; 15 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; three brothers, Gerald Carter (Veronica) of Jacksonville, FL, Olen Carter (Iris) of Hoboken, and Johnny Carter (Louise) of Belleview, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday (July 22, 2016) at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Hoboken. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Church Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Thursday evening at Music Funeral Home from 6 until 8 o'clock.
