Motion Picture Production Figure. He was sound director for the Fox Studio Sound Department (later the 20th Century-Fox Studio Sound Department). He was nominated for Academy Awards 14 times and won the Oscar twice, for Special Effects for "The Rains Came" (1939), and for Sound Recording for "Wilson" (1944). Other films for which he served as sound director include "In Old Chicago" (1937), "The Grapes of Wrath (1940), "How Green Was My Valley" (1941), and "The Song of Bernadette" (1943).
