Grover W. Bishop, 67, well-known gospel singer and teacher, and resident of 1422 St. Francis Drive, died Thursday afternoon at Mississippi Baptist Medical Hospital Center following an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Wright and Ferguson with Dr. H. A. Milner officiating. Following the services, Mr. Bishop will be taken to Goshen Baptist Church near Magee at 2 p.m. to lie instate until 3 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 3 p.m. and burial will follow in the Magee Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, the former Pearl Kelly; three daughters, Mrs. Juanita Clark, Jackson, Mrs. Pansy Dear, Pearl and Patricia Ann Berry; four grandchildren, three brothers, Melvin Bishop and George Bishop, both of Magee and Jimmy Bishop, Decatur, Ala; three sisters, Mrs. Lola Canoy and Mrs. Oree Fortenberry, both of Magee and Mrs. Lucille Toles [Towles], Luling, La.
Mr. Bishop was a native of Magee and had lived in Jackson since 1954. He was a retired foreman of bridge maintenance, Mississippi Highway Department. He was a member of Van Winkle Baptist Church.
