BOILING SPRING LAKES - Mr. James Walker Smith, 66, of Cedar Cove Retirement Center, Wilmington, formerly of 281 South Shore Drive, Boiling Spring Lakes, died Monday, January 22, 1996.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Peacock-Newnam Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jeffrey Johnson officiating. Graveside services will follow in Northwood Cemetery with Masonic Rites accorded by Pythagoras Lodge #249 A.F. & A.M.
Members of Pythagoras Lodge #249 A.F. & A.M. will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Smith was born August 25, 1929, in Brunswick County, son of the late James Walker and Carrie Orine Price Smith. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and following retirement worked for many years at Sunny Point. He was a member, past master, and long time treasurer of Pythagoras Lodge #249 A.F. & A M., a member of The Scottish Rite, and a Shriner. He was a member of Southport Baptist Church and formerly was a flight instructor at Brunswick County Airport.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Shirley Bories Smith: two sons, Stanley Smith of Anchorage, Alaska. and Jimmy D. Smith of La Miranda, California; a daughter, Patricia A. Martin of Redlands, California: four stepsons, Charles Ashmore of Hollywood, Florida, Kenneth Orgoglioso of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and Harvey A. and Charles S. Smith, both of Richmond, Virginia; a step-daughter, Leta Dickinson of Hollywood, Florida; a sister, Olive Dean Chipman of New Port Richey, Florida; and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Peacock-Newnam Funeral Home from 7-8.30 p.m. Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Boiling Spring Lakes Rescue Squad.
