IS NOW EIGHTY YEARS YOUNG
Bernard Fuesing, Sr., Joins Ranks of Octogenarians Wednesday.

Mr. Bernard Fuesing, Sr., who is practically a newcomer in our midst, having removed here from Mayville a year ago last September, passed his eightieth birthday Wednesday, and is now eighty years young and entitled to membership in the ranks of the octogenarians.

He was born in Westpfallen, Germany on November 1832 [sic], and first took up his American residence at Burlington in 1853, on the 4th day of July. He remained there three years when he moved to the town of Williamstown, in this county and established himself upon a tract of Wisconsin's most fertile acreage. Here he spent the greater part of his life, residing upon his farm there until 1906 and then, retiring from active life, he went to make his home with his son at Mayville. It was the death of this son and the desire to spend the remaining years in the midst of their family, that induced Mr. Fuesing and his good wife, who is now in her 76th year, to remove to this city.

The birthday of Mr. Fuesing was quietly celebrated Wednesday evening at his home on Henry street by a gathering of his sons and daughters and their families. The children are Henry and Bernard Fuesing and Mrs. Gertrude Schellpfeffer of this city and Mrs. Bernard Niehoff of the town of Beaver Dam.

Mr. Fuesing bears lightly his burden of years and retains full possession of his faculties, which enables him to extract much pleasure from life as he moves along. We join his family and friends in extending congratulations and wishing a happy extension of life's lease to such a time at least as shall entitle him to a place in the ranks of the centenarians.

DIED - FUESING - At the home of his son, Henry Fuesing, 321 Henry street, this city, at 7:00 o'clock Monday morning, May 14th, 1917, Mr. Bernard Fuesing, Sr., aged 84 years, 5 months and 24 days.

The deceased had been in ill health for several months past, suffering with the ailments incident to the infirmities of old age. He failed steadily but gradually until the end despite the most careful attention by loving hands and the best medical skill.

Bernhard Fuesing was born in Westfallen, Germany, on November 20th, 1832, where he grew to manhood. While still a young man he came to the United States and settled at Burlington, Minn., where he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Klass on October 18th, 1854. Two years later he came to Williamstown in this county, and made his home on a farm near the city of Mayville. The greater part of his life was spent there, and in 1906 he retired from his active labors and went to make his home with his son at Mayville. Three years ago, and following the death of their son with whom they had lived at Mayville, Mr. Fuesing and his wife came to this city to reside, and have since made their home with their son, Henry.

Besides his aged widow and life's companion, now eighty years of age, he is survived by four children in the immediate family. They are Henry, Bernard and Mrs. Gertrude Schellpfeffer of this city, and Mrs. Bernard Niehoff of the town of Beaver Dam. There also eleven grand children surviving.

The funeral services were held at St. Peter's church at nine o'clock yesterday morning with interment in St. Peter's cemetery. The services were in charge of Rev. Geo. J. Muenzer.
