Sarah and Thomas had seven children. The first, James Robert, died at only two months old. Mary M. was born one year later, followed by twins, Thomas Brookins and William Bruce. Alice M.C., Laura A.J., and George Register rounded out the family.
Sadly, Sarah and Thomas lost three more children in early adulthood. The deaths happened within the span of one year. Thomas Brookins died in August of 1892. Mary M. died in July of 1893. George Register, the baby of the family, died just four months later, in November of 1893.
After Mary's death, Sarah and Thomas took in her daughter, Ila Minnie, age two. (It is believed that Ila's father died soon after Mary, although this is not confirmed at this time.) Sarah was widowed in 1903. Ila married Elmer Everhart on March 8, 1911, just six weeks after Sarah passed away.
Note: Ila Everhart was my maternal great-grandmother. Sarah kept a family bible, which she received upon her marriage to Thomas. All births, deaths and marriages for the immediate family were noted. The last two entries, presumably written by Ila, are the date of death for her beloved grandmother, and her own wedding date. The rest of the bible is long gone, but the tattered record pages remain in the family.
