Birth: Sep. 21, 1860, South Africa
Death: Jan. 4, 1921
Bingham County
Idaho, USA

Jesse Wiggill Ellis was born in Port Elizabeth, Cape, South Africa on the 21st of September 1860. His parents George Ellis and Jemima Rosetta Wiggill immigrated to the United States when he was 4 months old and arrived in Boston on a ship named the Racehorse. The Robert W. W. Wall family immigrated on the same ship and knew each other before leaving South Africa. They were all members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had heard the missionaries speak while in South Africa and were baptized there. The Ellis family settled in Kaysville in Davis County Utah. Grandfather George Ellis fought in the war and was shot in the lung during the war. He lived for many years afterward with the slug still in his lung. The Wall and Ellis families kept in touch with one another. Augusta Belle Wall was born Kaysville, Davis Utah on the 26th of September 1867. Jesse babysat Augusta when she was small. She was 7 years younger. Augusta taught school for 2 years before they were married. They were married on the 24th of July 1884 in Kaysville. They went up on the hill above Kaysville and hid behind a big rock to escape from being chivareed after the wedding. Jesse W. Ellis cooked for a logging camp and Augusta went along with him and sewed blue jeans and shirts for the men. Their first child was Jermima Rosetta Ellis and was born on the 10th of June 1885 in Kaysville. She died of croup at 2 years of age. Augusta Lorena Ellis was born 13 Sep 1887 in Kaysville and predicted her own death. She told her parents she had seen Aunt Linnie in the garden. She was only 3 years old and had never heard of Aunt Linnie who had died years earlier. Augusta L Ellis said that Aunt Linnie would return for her in 3 days. They took her to be checked by a doctor. The doctor found nothing physically wrong with her, but 3 days later, after eating only peaches for lunch, asked her father to hold her and she died in his arms. Jesse Wilson Ellis was born on the 5th of Sept 1889 up Ogden Canyon. Belinda Jane Ellis was born on the 27th of April 1892 in Kaysville and Elizabeth (Bessie) was born on the 25th of Oct 1894 in North Ogden. When Jesse W Ellis was about 40 years old, he was helping to cut down trees and one fell on him, hitting his head. When the doctor lifted the piece of skull from his brain he cried out, "Look out!" He was trying to warn the other workers. They wired his skull with gold thread and he healed fine. Jesse W. Ellis loved to play the violin. His violin was named "Hope" and was one of three that was made from the wood from the old Church of England when it was torn down. The three violins were named Faith, Hope, and Charity. The violin is now in possession of the Vaughn Wheeler family, Bessie Elizabeth's son. Jesse would play for dances and entertained at many gatherings. The family moved to Moreland in Bingham County, Idaho. They bought 20 acres and built a 2 room house where they lived the rest of their lives and where the rest of their children were born. Emma Sophrona Ellis was born on the 18th of Dec 1986. Flossie Belle Ellis was born on the 25th of April in 1899. Cloe Francis Ellis was born on the 8th of October 1901. A boy named John Halford Ellis was born on the 13th of November 1903. He was damaged at birth and suffered from epilepsy and had a damaged right arm. Emma, Cloe, and John all were born in Moreland. Robert Edward Ellis was born on the 16th of September 1906 in Blackfoot. Every summer the family would load the wagon and drive down to visit Robert W. W. Wall and Belinda Jane Bair Wall who had a 3,000 acre farm with a red brick house Jesse helped his father-in-law to build on the mountain road east of Layton Utah. It had 3 big rooms downstairs and 3 bedrooms upstairs. They would can food for the winter and sew clothes for school and help out around the farm. The red brick house was used as a museum for a time.
Jesse W Ellis died on the 4th of January 1921 leaving his wife with 5 children still to raise. The Idaho death certificate has his name as Jesse Wilson Ellis. Augusta Belle Wall Ellis passed away on the 21st of August 1923 leaving her youngest children orphans. The children stayed on the family farm for about a year selling off what they could to survive and finally had to move away living with various brothers and sisters.
