John William Gravely, 80 years of age, died suddenly from heart trouble Wednesday evening at the home of his son, Mr. T. E. Gravely, Church St.

He was the son of Mr. Leftwich Gravely of near Greystone, and was born in this county near Leatherwood.

At the beginning of the Civil War, he enlisted and was a member of the 42nd Virginia Regiment.
He was wounded at the battle of Gettysburg.

He was married about 1861 to Miss Eleanor Gravely who died a few years afterwards.
He is survived by a son, Mr. T. E. Gravely, a prominent merchant of this city.
