Known as "Fannie," Frances Sophrine Barnes was the eldest child of Benedict Barnes and Mary Bass Ford Barnes of Harrison County, Texas. Born ca. 1854, in the Avaton community (Freedom Post Office), in Harrison County, she married W.J. Bell, moved first to Wichita Falls, then to Arlington, Texas.
