Funeral services for Jesse Herman Goodpaster, 90, were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday
in the Mallett Chapel with Reverend Jim Palmer, and Reverend C. J. Stump
officiating. Mr. Goodpaster died Wednesday, March 8, 1972 in the Wagoner
Hospital. He was born February 26, 1882 in Kansas, the son of John Oakley
Goodpaster and Ella Fostina (Reedy) Goodpaster. He was married to Miss Mary
Elizabeth Crowder, October 19, 1908 in Moro, Lee County, Arkansas.
He moved to Welch, Oklahoma in 1909 and later to Peggs. Mr. Goodpaster was a
retired farmer and had lived in the Wagoner area for many years, moving her in
1917.
Survivors include three sons; Roy Goodpaster of Wagoner, Raymond of Fort Smith,
Arkansas, and Wayne of Drain, Missouri; three daughters, Mrs. Velma Gilmore of
Wagoner, Mrs. Ethel Hays of Wagoner and Mrs. Irene Sellers of Muskogee; one
sister, Mrs. Ruby Webb of Ohio; twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-seven
great grandchildren.
Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery directed by Mallett Funeral Home. Pallbearers
included Mike Hays, Dennis Hays, Tommy Sellers, Ken Goodpaster, John Gilmore,
and Jimmie Gilmore, all grandsons of Mr. Goodpaster.
