I.C.R.R. Train Kills Newbern Resident Tuesday

A 58 year old Newbern woman was killed Tuesday when she was struck by a northbound Illinois Central passenger train at a crossing here. Victim of the accident was Clara Bridges Dycus.
Attendants for Johnson Funeral Home said Mrs. Dycus was hit by the train as she crossed the tracks about two blocks south of the Newbern business district. Witnesses said work was underway on the track normally used by northbound trains, and that Mrs. Dycus apparently thought she had reached safety when she crossed to the southbound track.
She leaves her husband, James Dycus; a daughter, Mrs. Jarvis Richards of Chicago; a son: Jimmy Dycus of Memphis; her father: Joe H. Bridges of Newbern; four sisters: Mrs. Ernest Kee of McKenzie, Mrs. Gladys Norman, Mrs. Edith Oliver, and Mrs. Vernell Simrell, all of Chicago; three brothers: Reed Bridges of Chicago, Vernon Bridges of Osconda, Michigan, and Claude Bridges of Newbern, and 2 Grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at the Main Street Church of Christ on Tuesday
afternoon (today) at 1:30 o'clock. The Minister, Connie Adams, officiated. Pall bearers serving we're: J. D. West, W. D. Hollister, Edward Waller, Aaron Jackson, W. E. Huffstutter, and Wallace Oliver.
