CALCUTTA Nellie Taylor, 85, of state Route 170, died Saturday morning, Jan. 31, 2009, at home following a lengthy illness.
Born in Louisa, Ky., Dec. 7, 1923, she was a daughter of the late George and Nannie Burchett Prince.
A resident of the Calcutta area most of her life, she worked as a registered nurse and later worked from her home as a hair dresser. She enjoyed gardening and quilting. For many years, she volunteered at the St. Ann's soup kitchen as well as the Columbiana County Board of Elections. She was a member of the Calcutta Seniors, Heritage Quilters and the Columbiana County Republican Party.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Dick" Taylor, whom she married Nov. 3, 1952.
A son survives, George.
There are five grandchildren.
She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, along with a sister.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Prince, Cleo Cooper and Faye Henshaw and two brothers Dan and John Prince.
Friends may call Tuesday at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Pastor Larry Rose of the Northside Community Church will conduct a funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
