William Morre
Birth: Mar. 24, 1836, Germany
Death: Apr. 7, 1912
Gasconade County
Missouri, USA

William Morre, also known as William Bicker, arrived in America in 1850 with his foster mother, Wilhelmina Elizabeth Bicker nee Leweke and her husband. He married Sophia Katrena Rethmeyer 04 May 1860. After her death in 1875, he married Carolina W. (Gieck) Gerken.

The obituary of Mr. Morre's foster mother follows:

Der Christliche Apologete, April 1871] [Copy in possession of Jane Denny; translation is courtesy of Robert Rau.]

Mother Wilhelmina Elis. Bicker, daughter of Friedrich Konrad Leweke , born the 30th of August 1800 in Lippe-Detmold, fell asleep peacefully in Jesus on the 4th of April 1870 in Gasconade County, Missouri. Her illness was chest complaint and old age. Her age was 69 years, 3 months and 5 days. She lived for 32 years with brother Wilhelm Bicker in happy marriage; although childless, she fulfilled her maternal duties on two children which she had taken from relatives; they enjoyed a good upbringing and were both converted to God. She testified to the grace which is in Jesus, which she had come to know 31 years before in the old father-land. On her sick-bed she still thought of the Lordís work and bequeathed $15 for mission and orphan institutions, and $15 for the supervisory preacher. She left behind clear evidence that she went to her Saviour. Her end was therefore peaceful. She leaves behind a grieving husband and 2 foster children who are both married. Father Bicker sees her in faith and consoles himself with an early reunion.

Sophie Cattrine Retemeyer in the Missouri, Marriage Records, 1805-2002
Name: Sophie Cattrine Retemeyer
Marriage Date: 3 May 1860
Marriage Place: Gasconade, Missouri, USA
Registration Place: Gasconade, Missouri, USA
Spouse: Wilhelm Baker [Wm Morre]

Mr. Morre's MO death certificate, Mrs. Morre the informant, reports that he was born in Versmold, Germany. His father was Henry Jacob Morre and his mother was Wilhelmine Catharine Elizabeth Leweke. Does the mother reference refer to his foster mother, or another Leweke? There are Leweke family members buried in this cemetery. A closer look might find some connection.

According to the GASCONADE COUNTY CEMETERY SURVEY, 1985, there are two Zoar cemeteries at Drake: Zoar Methodist Church Cemetery, No. 1 (Sec. 16, south of Drake); and Zoar Methodist Church Cemetery, No. 2 (Sec. 15, in Drake). Mr. Morre was buried in cemetery No. 1.
