Death: Apr. 6, 2011

Longtime Kansas resident Mayme Darlene Loveland, 79, died April 6, 2011, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A service will be held at the Dover Federated Church on Thursday, April 14, 2011, at 1:00 PM. Her remains will be laid to rest at Keene Cemetery. Darlene was born December 4, 1931, in Delavan, Kansas, to parents Lawrence McClane and Cleo Bishop. She graduated from Dover High School in 1950. Her parents divorced and her mother married Bryce Bettles. Darlene married Max Loveland from Auburn on July 7, 1951. He died in 1964. She was also preceded in death by her parents Lawrence McClane and Cleo Bishop and her step father, Bryce Bettles. Darlene was employed by Kansas Neurological Institute for several years and in 1971 decided to embark on a new adventure and drove to Alaska. She worked for Aleyeska Pipeline and was able to tour the pipeline in its beginning stages. She enjoyed Alaska and all of her opportunities but missed her extended family and moved back to Kansas. After returning to Kansas she was employed by Santa Fe Railroad and thoroughly enjoyed her career there. Still not ready to retire she found herself working at the Wabaunsee County Sheriffs department. Along the way Darlene developed many lifelong friendships and maintained them throughout her entire life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and any and all sports, but especially her favorite teams: KU basketball and KC Chiefs. She is survived by three daughters, Dixie Blodgett, Maple Hill, Dana Blindt, Maple Hill and Tina and Jeff Ferman, Anchorage, Alaska; a son, Max Tony and Sheri Loveland, Harveyville; nine grandchildren, Daniel Blindt, Jana Phillips, Jeffery Ferman, Benjamin Blindt, Jesse Ferman, Kenneth Blindt, Doc Blodgett, Zach Loveland and Rachael Loveland Kraus; siblings, John Bettles, Roger Bettles, Loren Bettles and Ruth Campbell; cousin, Dan Daniels, as well as fifteen great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. There are no words to express our loss but we take comfort in knowing our Mother is in the arms of God and reunited with our father and grandmother. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to KU Endowment/Macular Degeneration in memory of Mayme Darlene Loveland and sent in care of VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, PO Box 338, Eskridge, KS 66423. A celebration of life will be held at the Dover Community Center after the service at approximately 2:00 PM. Published in Council Grove (KS) Republican~April 12, 2011
