Nicholaus Watters (the more commonly found spelling)was born November 20, 1740 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. He was the son of Godfrey Watters (b. 09/17/1703, Anne Arundel, MD). The family were Quakers and Nicholaus was one of 13 siblings, which included Willam Waters (b. 1751) who converted to Methodism... and as such, was the first Methodist "Circuit Rider" who was born in America. Nicholaus was converted to Methodism by his younger brother and served as a Methodist minister for 30 years in South Carolina. You might check the early records of the Methodist church for any possible paintings.
