D. T. Fenters, Businessman, Passes at 68

Hemingway --- D. Tillman Fenters, 68, retired business man of Hemingway, died unexpectedly at his home early Sunday morning.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church by Rev. C. H. Beard and Rev. Leroy Caulder. Burial, directed by the Morris Funeral Home, will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Georgetown County.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Freeland Fenters, Raymond Fenters, Loyal Fenters, Laverne Fenters, D. L. Tanner, Richard Harris, Bobbie Owens, Liston Baxley and Pappy Martin. Deacons of First Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Fenters was a son of the late John Thomas Fenters and Mary Ellen Williams Fenters of Rose Hill section of Georgetown County, where he was born and spent his early life.

He established his home in Hemingway 40 years ago and was active as a livestock and automobile dealer. He attended Union School in Georgetown County and served with the Navy during World War I.

He was a Mason and formerly served as a trustee of Hemingway School. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served many years as a deacon. He was chairman of the board of deacons for 20 years and had been made a life deacon by his church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Eva L. Bennett Fenters; two daughters, Mrs. W. C. Tims of Hemingway and Mrs. Harry Tokumaga of Columbia; four sons, D. T. Fenters Jr., Bennett Fenters, Don Fenters and Richard Fenters of Hemingway; five sisters, Mrs. Alvin Tanner of Rt. 3, Georgetown, Mrs. D. V. Martin and Mrs. Clara Creel of Hemingway, Mrs. Paul Harris of New London, N. C. and Mrs. Florence Owens of Garden City Beach; five brothers, Gilbert Fenters, B. G. Fenters and Doward Fenters of Hemingway, Ollie Fenters of Garden City Beach and John F. Fenters of Jacksonville, Fla. and 18 greandchildren.
