Mary A. Gilman, 80, of Fitchville Road, Bozrah, died on Sunday (June 13, 1999) at the William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich.


She was born in Bozrah on October 1, 1918, daughter of the late John J. and Katherine (Foley) Sweeney.


She was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy Class of 1935. Mrs. Gilman had worked for many years at the State Department of Social Services and the Bozrah Post Office. She was a communicant of St. John's Church in Fitchville. Mrs. Gilman's interest was in the local andState Democrat Politics. On August 31, 1941, she was married to Ralph A. Gilman at Sacred Heart Church in Norwichtown.


Survivors include four sons, Robert J. Gilman of Norwich, Thomas Peter Gilman of Lebanon, Daniel J. Gilman of Norwich and TimothyJ. Gilman of Bozrah. One daughter Maureen Gilman of Bethesda, MD; and a sister, Martha P. Arsenault of Bozrah. Four Grandchildren, David and Christopher Gilman and Brian and Julia Conlan.


The Funeral will assemble at the Cummings - Gagne Funeral Home, 82 Cliff Street, Norwich on Thursday at 9 a.m. and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John's Church in Fitchville.
Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph Cemetery in Norwich.
A visitation will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
