Forrest L. Groff
PITTSBURG-Forrest L. Groff, 82, of Pittsburg died at 1:40 p.. Thursday, May 18, 1995, at Mt. Carmel Medical Center from injuries sustained in a May 11 car accident near Pittsburg.
He was born May 21, 1912, in McCune to Elmer and Nancy Fawcet Groff. He attended schools in McCune.
He married Burnice I. Allen May 25, 1935, in McCune. She died May 11, 1995, from injuries received in the same accident.
The Groffs moved to Girard in 1957. Mr. Groff was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Fox Construction Co., Crawford County Road Department, and also farmed in the McCune area. They moved to Pittsburg in 1992.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Benelli of Pittsburg and Mavis Masterson of Wichita; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Three brothers, Edward, Homer and Jessie "Bud," and two sisters, Myrtle Thiesing and Mary Groff preceded him in death.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Brenner Chapel of Pittsburg with the Rev. George Powers officiating. Burial will be in the McCune Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Sunday. The family suggest memorials to the Southeast Kansas Humane Society.
