Son of James and Hannah (Lee) Beckett. Lee spelled the Beckett name with an "E" on the end. His first wife was Emily Samuels (Hatfield) Beckette. His second wife was Mary Susan (Miller) Thomas Beckette and she is buried in the Maupin Cemetery at Yates Crossing.

Cabell county has the oldest postmaster in point of service in the state, says the Bluefield Telegraph. For forty years A. L. Beckett has been serving the United States as postmaster at Fudge's creek, up near Ona, and the receipts of the office now are about the same that they were when he first took charge.
