Evelyn Winter, age 93, of Blue Earth, passed away on Jan. 8, 2009, at her home.

Funeral services were held Jan. 13, 2009, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Blue Earth. Pastor Dale Kohrs officiated. Burial followed at Riverside Cemetery in Blue Earth.

Winter Funeral Home in Blue Earth was in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn Alice Winter was born to William and Augusta (Erdmann) Hiller in Pleasant Prairie Township on March 14, 1915. She graduated from high school and attended Normal Training.

On Nov. 29, 1937, she was wed to Arvil Wayne Winter in Brownton. Their union was blessed with three children. In 1942, Arvil and Evelyn moved to their farm where they farmed until Arvil's death in 2005. In addition to helping her husband farm, Evelyn taught school, worked at the AAA (FSA) office, and worked at the Faribault County Fair office for several years.

Evelyn was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Blue Earth, where she was a lifetime member and served as President of Ladies Aide for several years and also served as an officer for the Lutheran Woman Missionary League. Evelyn enjoyed collecting antiques, depression glass, and collectibles (especially Hummel figurines), going to flea markets and taking trips. She also enjoyed gardening and seeing flowers and butterflies.

Evelyn died at her home on Jan. 8, 2009, surrounded by her loved ones.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters: Sharon McCarthy and significant other, Roger Peterson; and Marlys Winter; one son, David Winter and fiancé Mandie Iverson; eight grandchildren, Bob, Brian, Jeff (Lori) Espeland, RJ (Annie) McCarthy, Melanie (Bobbe) Garvick; Tim Winter; Stephanie Winter and her significant other Asela Wijeratne; and James Iverson; 11 great-grandchildren, Rachel, Kallie, JT, and Spencer Espeland; Makalia and Harley Garvick; Sage Winter; Brittany Harding; Derek Brandbold; Mason McCarthy; and Lauren Wijeratne; honorary granddaughter Mary (Jerry) Swanson; two sisters: Esther Volk and Lillian Anderson; two sisters-in-law: Lurene Winter and Alice Winter; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arvil; brother William Hill Jr. and wife Marlene; three brothers-in-law: Cecil, Henry, and Bernard Winter; two sisters-in-law, an infant and Geraldine Armstrong; daughter-in-law Karen Winter; and grandson Michael Espeland.
