US Congressman. A graduate of Indiana State Normal School (now Indiana State University), he was a teacher in Lagrange, Indiana. He later became involved in the life insurance business, and this eventually led to his election as the auditor of Lagrange County. In 1906 he was elected as a Republican U.S. Representative to fill a vacancy in the Fifty-ninth Congress and was subsequently elected to the Sixtieth Congress, serving from November 6, 1906 until March 3, 1909. He was unsuccessful in his 1908 reelection bid. He then studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1910, and returned to his insurance business in Lagrange, Indiana.
