On her paternal side, she is descended John Ellington Jr. & Sarah Worsham who arrived in NC from Prince George Co, VA. ca. 1720. Her grandparents were Rev. John F. Ellington & Christianna Avera/Avery, Clayton. On her maternal side, her grandparents were Bernice Harris Tomlinson & Elizabeth Walton, Smithfield; and gr-grandparents were Harris Tomlinson & Edith Lockhart/Lockart, Smithfield.
Lizzy became the 2nd wife of John Moseley Turley in 1904, when at age 32, she married the 35-year old widower and became stepmother to his 8-year old son, Joseph Benton Turley, from his marriage to Nellie Northam Rose of Smithfield. Two more children were added to the household when Lizzie gave birth to Elizabeth R. Turley (1906) and Alice Bernice Turley (1909).
Lizzy died in 1919 at age 46. Her husband of 15 years, survived another 38 years, remarried for a 3rd time to Myra Nixon and moved to Lincolnton, NC where he died in 1942 at age 73. His remains were returned to Clayton and he was buried next to his wife, Lizzy.
Of her children, Elizabeth Turley died in 1933; and Alice "Bernice" Turley married Edward Jenkins of Raleigh. Stepson Joseph Benton Turley married Duba Ellis of Clayton, and they are both buried in Maplewood Cemetery, Clayton.
