Funeral services for Charles B. Carroll, 89, father of Brig. Gen. Percy J. Carroll of Vaughn General Hospital, Hines, Ill., were held at 9:30 a.m. today at St. Patrick's Church, 3300 Summit av., East St. Louis. Burial was in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Belleville.
A former lawyer, newspaperman and school teacher, Mr. Carroll died Saturday of pneumonia following a long illness. He was city attorney of East St. Louis in the 1890s. His son, Gen. Carroll, received the Distinguished Service Medal for evacuating wounded from the Philippines to Australia during the early period of the Pacific fighting and later was made chief surgeon of the American expeditionary forces in Australia. Mr. Carroll also is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Hazel M. Creighton, St. Louis, and Mrs. Richard Herminghaus of Miami, Fla.
