55358 Private Keith Charles Shaw, aged 21, originally from Dartford, England was looking for a job that he would like when he enlisted in the ARA on 21st February 1967. He was posted to 4RAR and sailed with the Battalion for South Vietnam in May 1968.
During Operation TRACK DUSTER in Phuoc Tuy Province on 8th October 1968, 12 Platoon were checking signs suggesting that an enemy camp was in the vicinity. A scout had found a bag of clothing close to a track and the platoon commander and the scouts moved a short distance to investigate. From a distance of thirty five metres, the enemy opened fire with small arms and three large command detonated mines. Keith and another soldier, Private Kevin Brewer, were killed and six others wounded.
